Playing With Layers: Some Time at the Art Table

Today I had the gelli plate out and was playing a little bit with image transfers.
I printed a face on my laser printer and used it to transfer the image onto my gelli plate. Then I added some color and lifted it from the plate to make this fun, vintage-looking little print.
I’ve tried doing image transfers before, but they never seemed to work with the magazine images I found. This laser print worked amazing! I think I’ll have to print some more laser prints!
I love how I can spend time with the gelli plate and make beautiful images while getting completely lost in the process. Spreading out the paint, pressing down the paper, lifting the print, and seeing what appears… there’s something really satisfying about it. Each layer becomes part of the next, and sometimes the unexpected bits are my favorite.
That’s one of the things I love about making art. I don’t always have to know exactly where I’m going. Sometimes I can just sit down at the art table and play.
What are you working on at your art table?
